Tommy “Tiny” Lister who was famous for his role as “Deebo” in the film Friday has died at the age of 62.
TMZ reports that the actor was found unconscious in his Marina Del Rey apartment on Thursday, just before 3pm. Lister was pronounced dead at the scene, with the cause of his death ruled as natural causes.
A release from The L.A. County Sheriff’s Department said that friends and business associates of Lister became worried on Thursday when they hadn’t heard from him since Wednesday night. Deputies performed a welfare check where they made their way into his apartment to find him deceased.
Lister was most famous for his role as “Deebo” in the hit comedy “Friday” and it’s sequel “Next Friday.” He also played President Lindberg in “The Fifth Element”, and also starred in “The Dark Knight”. He also had a few short pro wrestling runs as Zeus.
Lister was born blind in his right eye due to a detached and deformed retina. Growing up he would wear tinted sunglasses to hide what he considered a deformity. Then one day he stopped wearing glasses: “You thought it was a curse. It was a blessing. My eye became my trademark in Hollywood.”
Many of Lister’s film credits saw him as a bully, but earlier this year he used his bullying powers for good, getting the word out to help grieving families and warning kids to stay indoors during the early days of the pandemic.
Lister is survived by his wife Felicia Forbes and their daughter Faith Grace.
