Briana DeJesus gets the raised clenched fist symbol tattoo in honor of the unjust murder of a 46-year-old African American man, George Floyd to show her stand and symbolize her support to eradicating white supremacy and the violence inflicted on Black communities by the state and vigilantes”.
Recently Briana shared an image of her new tattoo on Instagram which had an emotional impact! Symbolizing courage as a person to take a stand and determine her will to not stay silent against systemic racism and police brutality, portraying her personal values on racial equality.
The image showed a tattoo of a raised clenched fist, this symbol has become intertwined with the Black Lives Matter movement that has emerged in response to the disproportionate police brutality experienced by black people, the symbol was adopted following the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri in August 2014.
The unarmed black teenager was shot dead by white police who claimed he was acting in self-defense, and the black power fist was used to represent the "hands up, don't shoot" pose. clenched fists raised in the air, are being brandished at protests worldwide after the murder of George Floyd.
Anti-apartheid activist Nelson Mandela raised a fist in triumph when he was released from prison in 1990.
It's been used ever since both in social media posts and at rallies, as a symbol of resistance and defiance.
While some celebrities and public figures remained silent as protests to demand justice for George Floyd enrage across the country and globally. Others have used their social platforms and their finances to show support for the movement and Briana is one of them.
Briana has shown her support and her respect through this new tattoo which will permanently be a reminder to herself and to others that this doesn't end here, we need to all stand up to this longstanding racist inequality that has been happening for decades, shockingly we are dealing with the same problem!
