Mike Tyson’s first boxing match in fifteen years, has ended in a draw. The boxing legend took on Roy Jones Jr. in an empty Staples Center arena in Los Angeles.
The statistics were as follows:
There was a lot of uncertainty surrounding the fight considering both contender's respective ages, with Tyson being 54 and Jones being 51.
Despite the fight ending in a draw, both legends looked great in their return to the ring. Tyson landed cleaner punches in the earlier rounds as well as muscling Jones in the clinch.
Jones showed flashes of his old self with no-look jabs and showboating to boot. Jones also appeared to be the more fatigued fighter in between rounds.
Jones would score higher during the later rounds which would grant him a win on one scorecard and a draw on the other with Tyson winning the third scorecard.
During the interview after the match, Jones would say: “I wear draws, I don’t do draws.”
Tyson told ESPN reporters: "Everything I was doing I could've done it better, so God willing, I'll be better the next exhibition.”
Overall, the fight was considered to be a success with a potential rematch on the not so distant horizon. Snoop Dog also proved to be an excellent commentator, delivering a lot of fun one-liners throughout his time commentating.
