Could this be J Cole’s once in a lifetime opportunity to play for the Pistons?
Let's start with this first question, Does J Cole have what it takes to play for the Piston’s, just how good of a player is he?
For those of you who aren't familiar with J cole which you should be as he has brought the attention of Barack Obama, in any case here is a little rundown.
“You are looking at one of the smartest, greatest, most legendary artists of our generation.”
said Drake when he paid him such a wonderful compliment.
J Cole is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and record executive. The rapper was born in Frankfurt, Germany in 1985 and brought up in Fayetteville, North Carolina. J Cole rose to fame in the early 2010s. Signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation, he has gone on tours all over the world and, sold huge amounts of records, he also produced for Kendrick Lamar and also set up his own non-profit organization called Dreamville Foundation.
According to USA Today, the artist did play basketball as a kid and during his sophomore year, he actually made it to the second try out which only ten made it to however he then decided and shared this indicating that there is some potential serious talent;
“I had a fear of actually making the team and quickly losing my college lifestyle. I would have had to turn into this guy who had to practice two or three times a day and wake up at six in the morning.”
“Plus I was in love with music and I knew I wanted to rap. So I had to make a decision that I knew was going to change the trajectory of my life. I called my coach from high school. I called one of my friends who was a star player in high school. And I didn’t go the next day. In my mind, I’d have made the team. Who knows what would have really happened? But I knew I wasn’t ready for that type of commitment and that lifestyle.”
The Detroit Pistons tweeted to the famous rapper recently, what looks like an offer to try out for the club. Captioning the post;
. @JColeNC we see you out here. You said they only got 12 slots on the Pistons.
“Hit us up for that tryout. This is for all the dreamers.”
Bleacher report tweeted recently;
“Master P says J. Cole is considering trying to earn an NBA contract.”
“When I talked to J. Cole, he was like, ‘You know, big dog, you did it. What do you think I would have to do to make it happen?’”
According to The Score, J Cole reached out to fellow rapper Percy Miller, “Master P” for advice on what it would take to make an NBA roster.
"When I talked to J. Cole, he was like, 'You know, big dog, you did it. What do you think I would have to do to make it happen?'" said Miller, who had preseason stints with the Charlotte Hornets and Toronto Raptors in the 1990s.
"I said to get one of these NBA jerseys, it's not gonna be easy. It's gonna be a lot of hate, it's gonna be a lot of people not believing in you, but you know J. Cole, he got the right size, he in the gym."
In the ‘Audacity’ beautifully written by J Cole on the Players Tribune may have hinted that playing for the NBA could be on his “bucket list”
“On my career bucket list, there remain a few more items to check off before I give myself permission to enter whatever the next chapter of my life may be. However, as I approach the summit of this mountain, I still find myself staring at that other one in the distance, wondering if I can climb. At 35 years old, I know that sounds crazy when said out loud, but I believe all of the best dreams do.”
